Compensation Philosophy

At Hover, we align compensation with our high-performance culture. This means we reward employees for outsized impact, providing differentiated pay for top performers. Our data-driven and transparent approach is intended to provide Hoverites with competitive compensation and an understanding of how they are paid.  

Offers at Hover

All offers at Hover take into account three components to ensure we stay true to our compensation philosophy. 

Compensation Bands

We benchmark against all SF Bay Area technology companies and use this data to create compensation bands for each role at Hover. The bands refreshed annually, and  are designed so that employees have room to grow within them over time. 

Career Levels

Hover has built a leveling framework for every role in order to provide clarity around expectations and growth for employees. Compensation bands are tied to each role and level. 

Location Pay Zones

Hover has a location-based pay approach, where your base salary is determined by your home address. Employees are asked to inform us if their location changes.

Merit Cycle Timeline

We run two merit cycles a year, typically at the end of Q1 and Q3 following a performance review cycle. Employees with at least 2 months tenure before the start of the merit cycle are eligible to participate. 

We ensure fairness and equity in our merit cycle process by providing consistent compensation recommendations for performance, promotions, and equity rewards.
